History
Noah was the tenth and last of the antediluvian (means "before the deluge") Patriarchs. The story of Noah and the Ark is told in the Genesis flood narrative, and also told in Sura 71 of the Quran.

Outside Genesis his name is mentioned in 1 Chronicles, Isaiah, Ezekiel, the Gospels of Matthew and Luke, Hebrews and the 1st and 2nd Epistles of Peter. He was the subject of much elaboration in later Abrahamic traditions, including the Qur'an -- the central religious text of Islam, which Muslims believe to be a revelation from God.

The Quran recounts stories of many of the people and events recounted in Jewish and Christian sacred books (Tanakh (Torah, Nevi'im, Ketuvim), Bible) and devotional literature (Apocrypha, Midrash), although it differs in many details. Adam, Enoch, Noah, Eber, Shelah, Abraham, Lot, Ishmael, Isaac, Jacob, Joseph, Job, Jethro, David, Solomon, Elijah, Elisha, Jonah, Aaron, Moses, Zechariah, John the Baptist and Jesus are mentioned in the Quran as prophets of God.

In the Bible Genesis, Noah was his five hundredth year and had three sons, Shem, Ham and Japheth. In his six hundredth, year God was saddened at the wickedness of mankind, and sent a great deluge to destroy all life, but because Noah was "righteous in his generation" God instructed him to build an ark and save a remnant of life.

Noah is said to have lived to 950 or 350 years after the Flood. In the Bible, the lifespan of characters diminishes rapidly -- down to 120 years for Moses.
