"Bling Ring" Revisited: Chicago Local Katie Chang in Film About Hollywood Burglars Directed by Sofia Coppola

CNN's Margaret Conley reports on Hollywood burglaries that are depicted on Bling Bling.

The Bling Ring, sometimes called the "Hollywood Hills Burglar Bunch", "The Burglar Bunch", or the "Hollywood Hills Burglars", were a group of mostly teenagers based in and around Calabasas, California, who burglarized the homes of several celebrities over a period from about October 2008 through August 2009.

Reported victims were Paris Hilton, Audrina Patridge, Rachel Bilson, Orlando Bloom and Miranda Kerr, Brian Austin Green and Megan Fox, and Lindsay Lohan

Four defendants eventually faced sentences. Related to the biggest burglary proceeds, defendant Roy Lopez Jr. was sentenced on Thursday November 8, 2012 after pleading no contest to stealing over $2 million of jewelry from Paris Hilton.

New Trier High School (Winnetka) graduate Katie Chang plays ringleader Rebecca. She plans to attend Columbia University in New York as a freshman in August majoring in creative writing.

The Bling Ring, directed by Sofia Coppola, began filming in March 2012 and is scheduled for released June 2013. The film stars Emma Watson, Taissa Farmiga and Leslie Mann, as well as newcomers Israel Broussard, Katie Chang, Claire Pfister and Georgia Rock. Paris Hilton, appears as herself in the film.
